3A- Your Entrepreneurship Story
The first time I was exposed to entrepreneurship was when I had to implement a sustainable change in my community for my Girl Scout Silver Award. This allowed me to think like an entrepreneur: to use the resources I had and innovate in order to exploit an opportunity. I scoped out potential needs in my community of Tampa, FL and was lead to examining an unmet need at an organization called Hope Lodge. Often times, cancer patients have to travel out of town to receive treatments at a specific hospital. American Cancer Society recognized this issue and houses cancer patients for free while receiving treatment through Hope Lodge. After volunteering there and speaking with patients and staff, I gathered that there was an unmet need for information regarding locations of various necessities around the hotel due to the unfamiliar area. Patients were consistently asking for directions to grocery stores, movie theatres, amusement parks, pharmacies, etc. I decided to create a permanent activity log that would give directions, suggestions, and coupons to the surrounding establishments. This log would also be consistently monitored and updated by staff to give the most recent information and deals. The log is still sustained today and has been extremely beneficial to the organization.

I enrolled in ENT3003 to understand the definition of entrepreneurship, gain problem-solving skills and expand my knowledge of how to successfully think like an entrepreneur and identify opportunities. I am very interested in entrepreneurship and wanted to see how it would relate to my life and my future career.

Taylor, I think it is great that as a girl scout they had you guys come up with entrepreneurial ideas. It is the perfect foundation for a young person to understand what it is and how capable they are of doing it Additionally, I think entrepreneurship is addicting, and introducing children to it at a young age certainly will increase their likelihood of success and interest in entrepreneurship. This translates to benefits for the economy and the community because by creating your own business you are contributing through a new avenue to the economy and potentially increasing jobs available in your area. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor, first I have to say that your story is inspiring and I at least to me and I enjoy reading it. I love the organization that you choose to volunteer and how you help patients with cancer. I think I can relate so much because my mom had cancer and not many people volunteer back home to help. Moreover, I found very impressive that at such a young age you were able to innovate and exploit an opportunity to the benefit of your community. As to the question on how you can improve in the future. I would say follow your gut, don’t change your heart, and keep doing what you are doing. I really enjoy reading your post.
