18A- Create a Custom Avatar
My prototypical customer is most likely your average sedentary working class person. They are someone who works a 9-5 and spends their free time taking their kids to soccer practice, watching CNN, cooking frozen pizzas and going out for drinks with friends on the weekends. They usually bring a peanut butter and jelly to work, if they are even organized enough to bring a lunch that day. Otherwise, it's a Chick-fil-a #7 with a large sweet tea.
This person is what you would consider "skinny fat". They don't look "fit" and are not in great cardiovascular health. They have a gym membership but go very intermittently. They will go when the start feeling crappy about their body and then stop once satisfied with the minimal results they achieve. They're uneducated about nutrition and repeat the same cardio machines while watching Chicago Fire on the TV.
I see my customer repeating this process over and over, leaving an endless cycle of weight loss and weight regain, feeling good and then feeling crappy again. This person doesn't make enough time to prioritize their fitness and feels the consequences in their energy levels, stress levels, and physical appearance. They are extremely busy with work, kids, the dog, and keeping up with the latest medical shows.
They are the kind of person that needs a glass of wine (or bourbon, depending on the day) every Friday night to "celebrate" the week and requires a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean on each of their kids' school breaks. They oftentimes reminisce to their college days of drinking every night and having freedom to do whatever they wanted; without a spouse, boss, and kids to be responsible for.
This is what I expect my average sedentary customers to look like.
What do you have in common with the customer avatar?
I, like my customer avatar, experienced these waves of struggle trying to sustain a 'fit' lifestyle. I was unfit, uncoordinated, did not look they way I wanted to, had low energy levels and low self-confidence. I was mostly sedentary and spent most of my time at school sitting in a desk or working my high school job. When I wasn't doing either of those, I was sitting on my bed watching Youtube with a large bag of peanut butter pretzels.
If you have anything in common with the avatar, do you think that is a coincidence? Why?
I think it is a coincidence because creating fitness as a habit and a lifestyle is extremely hard to do. Without correct education, motivation, and accountability, most people fail pretty quickly. At this current point in my life, I do not have anything in common with my custom avatar because I took the steps to educate, motivate, and make myself accountable. After doing this, I know what steps need to be taken to get someone where I am today, from where they and I were at before.

Hi Taylor,
ReplyDeleteI thought that you did a great job creating your avatar through the plentiful examples. I could really picture the target market you are after with your service. You used very specific examples like the exact Chick-fil-a order which helped me picture your avatar easily. I also agree with your comments about regaining weight and then losing it which creates a cycle. I think this is a big problem today and your service has a chance to make a big difference.
Hi Taylor,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog post related to the description of your typical customer. You did a really good job at explaining why this is and would be your typical customer. I agree with you that a prototypical customer would most likely be someone is somewhat active in fitness. What do you think the best way to attract an audience would be. What incentives would you provide to your customer.
